lacyLacy focused on the most common side effects of anastrozoleAnastrozole and did not pay attention to hepatotoxicity and drug‐induced hepatitis. Although anastrozoleAnastrozole has fewer adverse effects than tamoxifenTamoxifen, A review of thea literature review shows at least seven cases of anastrozole-relatedAnastrozole-related liver damage. Details of all these patients are presented in the table 1.
Anastrozole
-induced hepatotoxicity occurs in less than 10 percent10% of people. It presents with elevated liver enzymes, such as alanine transaminase, aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase in serum, which happenhappens in 2%2 to 5% of patients. Also, hepatic steatosis has been observed in up to 30% of long-term anastrozoleAnastrozole users.10 The mechanismcause of liver damage from anastrozoleAnastrozole is not clearly understood, but it seems that immune-mediatedalimmune-mediated and metabolic damages have an essential role in these reactions.
Consequently, hepatotoxicity is a rare side effect of
anastrozoleAnastrozole therapy. But, but, it is life-threatening and physicians need to be aware of it to diagnosewhen prescribing it, as it asis the main cause of increased liver function tests in patients who have recently been treated with anastrozoleAnastrozole. It is very noticeableimportant that this condition is recognized early to avoid hepatic failure. For this purpose, active follow-up of patients and, regular measurement of liver enzymes, and serologic tests during anastrozoleAnastrozole administration are recommended.
