The parts of a task according to Dr Nunan are the following:

Goals describe the task outcome, what learners should be able to accomplish or do better after completing the task.
They are broken into General Goals and Specific Goals. General Goals are conformed by Social, Service, and Aesthetic Goals, where Specific Goals are more focused on certain areas of interest (objectives).
Social Goals, focuses on engaging in conversations, exchanging ideas, opinions, etc, (describing a family member).
Service Goals, are based on acquiring information from books, magazines, films, among others sources and then use the information, (buying a magazine)
Aesthetic Goals, refers to listening, reading, or responding to creative uses of the target language.

Input Data are the materials needed to develop the task, the main controversy is the authenticity of the materials.
- Genuine: Created only for the "real life", but still used in the classroom.
- Altered: No meaning change, but some format alterations.
- Adapted: Vocabulary and grammatical structures simplified.
- Simulated: Despite being created for language teaching it tries to look Genuine.
- Minimal: Created for the classroom.

Procedures are the activities to be done with the Input Data, authenticity is still prevalent here.
A rehearsal task has a procedural authenticity because it mirrors what happens outside the class and on the other hand, an activation task does not.

Roles isare referred to the part the teacher and the students have in learning. Task-based teaching gives the students a lot of control of the class,. aAs such there are a lot of different roles a student could have from being a passive recipient of outside stimuli to being responsible for their own learning.

Setting refers to the situation and context where learning takes place, therefore instruction in task-based language teaching is not limited to a teacher-fronted classroom, because new technologies allow students to activate and apply what they have learned.
