Music- Personal Context- Draft #1
Ever since I was a young child, I can remember my dad and my older brother always playing their guitar, or my dad teaching my brother new skills and. I always thought that it was very cool and that someday, I would like to do that. Towards the end of last year, I enrolled in classical guitar lessons at school and I began getting lessons, and I learnt a lot, but then I began doing pop band this year. and I realised that I wanted to do electrical and acoustic guitar. I asked my pop band teacher, Steve Dougherty to enrol me in guitar lessons with him. Steve has taught me a lot of new skills on my guitar and helped me become a more confident performer.
At the beginning of the year, I did my first performance in front of a crowd,; it was called “Granny Songs” because we had to pick a song that would go for ninety seconds which we would perform for our granny if they asked us to play a song. I was so nervous and could barely even strum my guitar,. iIt was horrific, and I didn’t sing in time with the guitar,. I dropped my pic and forgot the words to the song,. I was extremely embarrassed. After that mortifying act, I began practising every day,; some weekends I would be in my room for hours trying to master one song. By the time of my pop band concert, I had become a lot more fluent and Steve had put me as lead guitar and I played and sung in all of the six year nine bands,. I was stoked. After playing in front of a bigger crowd, I felt really good and enjoyed it a lot. My most recent concert was at the Albany Entertainment Centre, andwhere I was lead guitarist. and iIt was so amazing playing in front of the huge crowd and overcoming my shyness.
I really look up to my brother, Isaac, because he has inspired me so much, and he is in a really cool band. Isaacs’s band is called “The Foamies” and they play regular gigs at parties and The White Star, along with other really cool bands. My brother is lead guitarist and singer, and they write reggae, funk rock, alternative music for which Isaac writes lyrics, for,and soon they will be releasing an EP. Isaac has really supported me with my music and always helps me out, and I really respect that. Recently, he brought me a steel string acoustic which I was so happy with because before I whasd been using a dodgy classical guitar that didn’t sound very nice.
I have a really great passion for music and hope to be in a band within the next few years. I am always trying to learn new skills or master songs, I didn’t realise how much time and effort you have to put in, but it is all worth it. My brother and Steve have really shaped me into what I have become now and I hope in the years to come that I am still playing and teaching my younger siblings to do what I am doing now.
