I have always heard that when people become grandparents, they feel old, but my granddaughter has made me feel like a kid again. I have visited many places that I never would have visited as an adult, such as the zoo, the aquarium, and the beach. Watching her eyes light up when she sees the cheetas, or the bird exhibit for the first time, makes me feel a sense of wonder too. Because she loves all kinds of creatures, we make sure our trips include animals of any kind. I also feel like a kid again, when I read to her. I absolutely love a series of books about a sSiamese cat, Skippy John Jones, who thinks he is a chiuahua. Skippy gets into all kinds of adventures with his beanie stuffed animals in his closet, but he always returns to the love of his mother at the end. Last, my grandaughter helps me to remember the magic of holidays. She still believes in the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and the Tooth Fairy. I am able to remember that holidays are about much more than having to clean the house for company, or having to cook for days to make a special meal for family.
