Creativity of children and creativity of adults, for many people, are not the same. During childhood, there are not as many factors that inhibit creativity or the desire to make art as there are as we mature. Even though this is true, there are ways to overcome these obstacles.
Other people can influence someone to push their desire of making art to the side. One small conversation can destroy a self-esteem. To overcome this, just pick up where you left off. Remember the confidence that you once had as a child and reactivate your interests in the arts. Do not let other people interfere.
Even though others can inhibit creativity, a person can be their own worset enemy. “Adults tend to think too much about what they are doing and ultimately get caught in the restrictions of the controlling mind” (163). The minds of children can wander, but they do not overthink when their creativity is being unleashed. To overcome this inhibitor, one must not be afraid to appear childlike when expressing yourself. Remember your adolescent years, and be like that.
“There is also a fundamental technical aptitude that we lose as adults, which is the ability to portray complex subject matter through essential form” (165). There is no need to worry too much about being exact. Young children create forms that suggest its appearance. Do not labor over what you do, and do not be overly concerned with precision.
“A child’s mind is not cluttered with memories, experiences, and expectations” (167). As an adult, be aware of what happens as we mature that inhibits our creativity or desire to make art. There are many ways to overcome obstacles; observe children, imitate them, clear your mind. “Creativity is a force moving through us…” (174). Do not let anything interfere with that.
