Hello classmates,
I found the documentary Happy to be very interesting., particularly Hhearing people’s stories from all around the world and comparing the different lifestyles was interesting. Happiness is measured differently by nations. One thing that really stood out to me was the Japanese lifestyle. According to the documentary, Japan has been ranked the least happiest country amongst all the wealthy industrialized nations. Japan is known for it’s technology and futuristic gadgets. I never would have never thought that their country was so unhappy. It has been reported that Japanese isare literally working themselves to death. It is so severe, they call it “karoshi.”. People are dying at work because the work days have been stretched out so much. There is even an event held for karoshi victims and their families. I find this mind blowing. The phrase, “working yourself to death”,” is real life in Japan. I’ve used this phrase many of times sarcastically but never thought it to be literal. I felt so sad for the people of Japan. The majority tries to stay ahead and wants more so much that they sacrifice everything, even their own life. Work is not worth it.
Do you guys believe that the lifestyle of different nations actually affects the overall happiness of their people?
