This study aims to find out the role of the misinterpretation of religion for the legalization ofin maintaining legalized slavery, as depicted in Narrative of the life of Fredrick Douglass. Fredrick Douglass, which is basically an autobiography. It’s the story of his life from the time he was born a slave to the time of his escape to freedom in the North. But it’s also a piece with a strong political message. When Douglass wrote this book in 1845, slavery was still legal in much of United States. He became a public speaker and writer to try to stop itend slavery. Douglass was a humanist who fought hard to ensure his people a better quality of life. When he got his freedom, Douglass became a dedicated spokesman for the abolition of slavery and in works in support of womenwomen's rights. He went across the country and all over the world, to givegiving speeches about his experience as a slave. Here inIn this study, our aim is to find out thatwhether Douglass is religious or not and if so, whether religion helpshelped him or not. We will be tryingalso attempt to examine what thewhether religious slave masters arewere better or worse than the onesthose who arewere not religious.
