The book entitled The Color Purple was a
book thatwritten by author Alice Walker wrote. Alice Walker used some of the people in her life to model the characters that she used in her story such as Mr._______ and Celie’s father. The story is written in a series of letters written by thatthe character Celie. writes, thenLater on in the book, Nettie contributes to the letter writing as well later on in the book. Some of the themes that are used throughout the book are self acceptanceinclude self-acceptance, identity, and the mistreatment of African American women.

The Color Purple focuses on the theme of self acceptanceself-acceptance because Celie is on the journey to not only accept herself, but also to find herself as a person. Within the first letters that Celie wrote others, others' perceptions of her waswere seen as a big deal and they shaped how she viewed herself. She was very insecure because of the fact that she grew up in a violent environment and was treated like the black sheep of the family.
