In the novel Crabbe, by William Bell, the author builds up suspense and terror to add toenhance the scene. This isoccurs when Crabbe approaches his first misleading event, the bear attack. Bell continuously uses juxtaposition, simile, and fragmented sentence structure to increase the suspense throughout the scene. To begin, the bear is to be described as rhythmical and threatening at the same time. This shows how the suspense is eating Crabbe alive as well, and givesproviding a distorted view of the situation.
