Chapter One

Not far from the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, one of the most iconic bridges in the world, laylies the tiny village of Little Hampton. In this village, every door to every house had a different colour, butyet the colour red anddoor with the number thirty upon the door that was painted in red, was the only one with its lights still on.
It was still early on a Monday morning, and William Hunter was sat slouched on his bed watching TV. It was the first day of half-term. He had the whole week off, buthowever, the problem was that he had been grounded just the day before for athe whole month. He hadn’t meant to break his neighbour’s car window, but it had happened anyhow. He’d been playing football all by himself, so there were no witnesses to help him out by saying it had all been an accident. A whole monthWilliam could hardly imagine being stuck inside here every day! Thought William. Butthe entire whole month! However, that wasn’t the only problem he had. He’d won a competition for a wonderful day out at the Bristol Temple Meads train station. The world-famous Bristolian 473, (from 1956 no-less), was arriving at the station for the first time in years and now William couldn’t go. William was a huge fan of the old steam trains. He’s learned everything he could about the age of steamSteam Age, right from its very beginningsthe beginning to the most modern of super trains. He thought there was something almost magical and mysterious about the steam train. He loved everything about them. But now, after winning a ticket to what could have possibly been the best day out he could ever have, things had all turned rather sour.
William watched as the sun slowly rose up in the sky, and the light pentstreamed in through his bedroom window.
