Chapter Five: Summary
The final chapter discusses the implications of this research, including the effects of the successful implementation of the Information Technology and Knowledge Management in a Texas Collegecollege. The purpose of this study was to increase the literature and knowledge of IT and KMs in an HEI in the Fort Worth area of Texas, to provide a foundation for understanding the relationship or interactions between IT systems and organizational KM. Finally, recommendations are presented that may benefit other Texas colleges in their future endeavors to address the complex issues relatingrelated to implementing IT and KM in Texas. The effects of the IT and KM in the Texas college are critical and require thoughtful considerations, not only by the staff, but also by other related stakeholders who can help in shaping the future of IT and KM across Texas.
The problem addressed was the challenges faced by an educational institution in the Fort Worth Area of Texas regarding knowledge management and underpin the opportunities for KM in the education sector.
In particular, it aimed to examine the specific factors influencing KM adoption in HEIs and to determine the importance of IT in achieving successes in KM processes. Indeed, HEIs use massive volumes of data and information that various users can access through well-managed information systems.
The institution lacked the established formal practices for IT and KM, despite the nature of the college operations involving a high level of IT-related and knowledge-based activities. Currently, there is a shortage of IT-based systems to support and foster the organizational processes involved in the creation, retrieval, and transfer of knowledge (Ali, Suleiman, & Cob, 2015).
