This groups of scientists came together to gathercombine their data and share it with each other. Before the ENCODE project, there was another project called the Human Genome Project that sequence manysequenced much of the DNA, while ENCODE washas been much more successful, sinceas it seeks to interpret the data and discoveredidentify the flaws in their original ideas and beliefs. ThroughFor instance, this project, they discovered that theirthe initial beliefs ofbelief that 21,000 human genome responsibility was to encodegenomes were responsible for encoding for protein, while the rest didn’t have any particular responsibility and were consider junk DNA'junk DNA' was incorrect. Since the ENCODE research project has begun, junk DNA is no longer consider useless. Because of the hard workswork of the scientistscientists, they now know that what was once considered junk DNA has many purposes, such as identifyidentifying the landing mark for protein in, which, in return, influenceinfluences gene activity.
