Once you’ve eaten a lotus flower, you become addicted to it, and would lose your mind and your will to do anything else. Odysseus had to physically drag three members of his crew back to the ships and tie them down. Warning, and warn everyone to not eat the plant. I think that the view here ofis when it leads to addiction, sometimes its best to turn away and move oneon.

They think about their families, how they want to see them again, but they just can't bring themselves to travel all that way back.
