Nowadays, money has become one of the major concerns among people. Due to this, a new debate has been taking place regarding whether to work for vocation or merely for money. In the same line, doctors have been questioned in relation to this new discussion. A series of medical professionals started to prefer well-paid salaries in centralized zones, neglecting most of the time neglecting rural areas since in these places itit is unlikely to find a profitable job in these places.
To begin with, the main source of this issue is centralization. Centralization consists of leaving aside the zones which are considered asto not be profitable, whereas all the economic activities are prioritized in just one place (usually cities). Therefore, most of employment opportunities are offered in urbanized areas.
Secondly, as cities are the priority regarding economic activities, rural areas cannot offer as high salaries as cities can do. Consequently, doctors will prefer a well-paid job which covers all their needs .
Thirdly, infrastructure is also a problem. Modern hospitals and better equipment are among the advantages of working in a city. For this reason, it is not sorprisingsurprising that doctors will prefer working in urbanized areas since they are able to work with more complete equipment.
A possible solution is to create a new system of decentralization. The most important step is to start developing and encouraging economic activities in these rural areas, so they can be sustained economically (e.g. tourism). There will be a bigger capital which might be designated to the creation of new hospitals with more job opportunities and subsequently, with better salaries for doctors.
Overall, there is not just one solution to this problem. It is a thorough process in which we need to change the core of the economic paradigm.
