Corporate governance is not only about the proper use of management powers in a transparent and participative way, it. It also requires a good and faithful exercise of power. In essence, it concerns the fulfillment of some elementary tasks of organization, which are: to guarantee the security of funds of members or shareholders in the organization; to manage an effective and accountable framework for the organization; and to promote the economic and social aims of the stakeholders/members in accordance with the wishes of the public.

The principles of good governance in organizations entrusted with shareholders and members funds, entails that the organization must: conduct its operations in a proper manner; be effective and efficient; allow participation of all stakeholders and members; be transparent and accountable, because acceptable governance is interlinked with these institutionalized values.

It has been observed that lately there has been a disconnect between the Commission and some of its critical players in the copyright sector: the Collective Management Organization. From the Academy's findings, the major underlying issues between the Commission and some of the CMOs is basically the near absence of sound corporate governance and accountability in these organizations. As the regulatory agency of the sector, it is important for the Commission to promptly address this malaise, before it de-escalatede-escalates. For instance, this gap is noticenoticed in the lingering and unresolved face-off between the Commission and Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), which has led to the withdrawal of the later license.

It is believed that the disagreements can be resolved amicably, if a positive avenue is provided for parties to meet, discuss and make recommendations for a certain course of action. Therefore, there is need to find a lasting balance between the Commission and its stakeholders to pave the way of installing best practice in the sector.
