In Things Fall Apart by China Achebe, the main character, Okonkwo, faces a dilemma that forces him to choose between who he is or what he wants others to see him as, which came at the expense of someone else’s life. As a fighter, Okonkwo is used to fighting battles, but none that compare to the internal battles he endures. Okonkwo is the fiercest fighter known to his village and the neighboring village. After defeating the undefeated champion, Amalinize, Okonkwo quickly rose to fame and felt the need to put on a strong persona. In his family relationships, we can see the external side conquering as he’s more physical towards his children and wives. Ikemefuna is a young lad who was sacrificed by his village to avoid war with Umoufia.
