Busia County faces significant challenges in promoting inclusion, especially among children, youth, persons with disabilities, and adults aged 50 and above. Many in these groups struggle with limited access to quality education, skills training, mental health support, and community participation. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (2022), 64% of youth in Busia are unemployed, and over 70% of persons with disabilities encounter barriers to accessing education and services. These issues contribute to ongoing social exclusion and economic hardship in the region. The Stronger Together Project (October 2025 – September 2028), led by the Inclusive Rights Club (IRC), aims to address these challenges by reaching 5,000 direct beneficiaries annually and over 30,000 indirect beneficiaries. Primary beneficiaries include children, youth, seniors, and persons with disabilities, while secondary beneficiaries include caregivers, educators, policymakers, and community leaders. The project’s goal is to improve inclusive education, skills development, wellness, and community engagement through four key areas:
• Strong• Strong Club: Strengthening the IRC’s organizational capacity and infrastructure to support inclusion.
• Strong• Strong Voice: Raising awareness, advocating for inclusive policies, and engaging policymakers.
• Strong• Strong Communities: Delivering education, skills training, and wellness programs.
• Strong• Strong Together: Building partnerships, promoting volunteerism, and improving coordination.
Although the IRC was registered in 2025, its team brings over 11 years of experience in inclusive development and community work. The IRC has established partnerships with the Busia County government, local NGOs, and community groups, positioning it well to lead this initiative. The project’s total budget is KES 93.5 million (approximately USD 687,000), with the IRC requesting KES 63.6 million (approximately USD 467,000) from donors over three years. The remaining funds will come from local partners, government contributions, and in-kind community support. The Stronger Together Project aligns with Kenya’s Vision 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals, and Busia County’s development priorities. It aims to create lasting positive change by making services more accessible, reducing stigma, and strengthening community resilience.
